LAY FAST FOR PRIESTS 2011 - CLOSING REMARKS
Some folks fasted from talking this day and have listened for the Voice of the
Savior in their silences.
And in the quiet, they have been drawn into Holiness.
Some have fasted from food and have brought their bodies into submission to the
Spirit of God this day and in the self-denial, they may have found a renewed
spiritual peace and call to purity.
Whatever our sacrifice has been, we have offered all for the sanctification and
spiritual protection of priests and we have petitioned Heaven with an appeal to Our
Lady to give us many more priests of holiness and purity in their deep love for God
and for us.
Priests bring Christ into our midst in the most Holy Eucharist.
Some stories from across the world tell us that Heaven will have opened this day as
we, fasters from 57 countries have stretched up our arms in pleading to be heard,
because without priests we have no Eucharist.
We heard from the newly recognized Divine Mercy Cenacle in Namibia who have no
sanitary or drinking water. They have fasted for priests because they have a deep
love for the Eucharist.
The priest from Ethiopia wrote to tell us that he spread news of the fast across his
whole diocese.
The CCD teacher in Botswana who took his class of little 5 year-olds to visit Jesus
in the Blessed Sacrament at Adoration. He said, "The little people had a jolly good
talk with God about priests". On this most special occasion and to thank them for
their prayers for priests, he made sure that they all enjoyed "something sticky" to
eat.
The man from New Jersey who put himself on a silent retreat on Saturday for
priests.
The family who fasted from food, computer......and reading comics, for priests.
The lady from East Providence, Rhode Island who is in great physical pain who gave
her suffering for the sanctification of priests.
Fr. Bing in the Philippines who sent word out to 72000 people to invite them to join
us in this global fast for priests.
We cannot count the number of fasters but we know that from the rising of the sun
on Saturday morning, the spiritual power of these sacrifices began and all heaven
has been moved. We are told that God blesses the smallest offering like the five
loaves and two fish and multiplies them in abundance.
An united offering from the Church Militant across the world was presented on
Saturday and our 5 loaves and 2 fish have been grasped and blessed by our
Gracious and Loving God. His gifts will be spread out and multiplied 5ooo times.
On Saturday 22 October, we entered the mighty battle for souls of our priests who
give their lives to give to us the Most Holy Eucharist.
And we have won as yet untold and unseen victories.
God willing, we will all meet again in 2012 for the 7th Annual Lay Fast Day for
Priests.
May Almighty God be praised and honored in all of our lives in this coming year.
