Anna Rae-Kelly - Biography
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Anna has
worked for thirty years in the Christian
education field as a College Professor,
Faith Formation Coordinator and School
Teacher at all grade levels in Scotland and North America.
In her faith journey, Anna spent her formative years
working for the Frontier Apostolate missionaries in northern
British Columbia, Canada; she lived in and later assisted in
the establishment of a L’Arche community home; she
began an urban soup outreach program in the frozen winter
streets of Prince George, BC; she has led high school
retreat and residential spiritual camps; and has latterly
spent seven years in the contemplative lifestyle sanctifying
the hours with intercessionary prayer.
Anna has developed and presented multiple Catholic and
Christian Education series and retreats for religious and lay
groups in North America and Scotland. She established
ARK Ministries to offer support for presentations, programs
and retreats on pastoral theology and contemplative
spirituality throughout New England and beyond.
Anna lives in Massachusetts with her husband, John, and
their three children Anna, Christopher and Georgia.

What is ‘active prayer’? We can best describe this by
saying that when a ‘pray-er’ is called to a life of prayer,
they plead for people who are completely unaware that
they are being prayed for. They stand beside them in
their spiritual sorrow and they associate themselves
with their suffering. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
established a house in New York where she placed
sisters whose sole mission, every day and every night,
is to pray for other sisters in the other New York
community who are engaged in feeding and clothing
Christ’s poor. She calls these praying sisters the “other
selves” of the sisters working in the streets of New York.
